Native language and the second language

How are they alike?
My first language is German and the second language is English.
I will show how is English and German alike:
Nouns  and verbs are quite similar in German and English. The German alphabet contains the same 26 letters as the English alphabet. English and German both belong to the Germanic area. This two languages comes from  Indo-European language family. German and English share many words: Winter/winter, Haus/house, trinken/drink,
How are they different?German does not have a continuous tense form, nouns in German are capitalized, which often leads to students writing English nouns with capital letters..Although the sounds are often similar or the same. However, they look more similar when written down than they sound when spoken, because the German.  In the fact  English is a softer sounding language.
It's a lot of things, why it's more difficult to learn a second language. In contrast to second language, the first language I learned in surrounded by people who spoke my native language, also I learned 6 years to learn, how to speak my native language.Differently to learn a second language more difficult, because I read for fun or for information in my native language.

  1. Jane,

Thanks for sharing. I did not know that German nouns are always capitalized. I really don't have a lot of experience teaching German students. I have learned a lot from you.
